On behalf of the Grand Cognac metropolitan area, I wish to extend a warm welcome to each of you.
We, in Grand Cognac, look forward to hosting the 2019 European Veterans’ Fencing Championships at our sports venue. We are very pleased that the European Fencing Federation chose our region, entrusting the Cercle de l’Epée de Cognac with the organisation of this prestigious event.
1500 fencers, referees, and spectators from more than 35 different countries will have the opportunity to enjoy the quality of our sports facilities as well as the countryside, with its stone villages, rivers and vinyards; in a nutshell, our heritage.
This major competition offers a unique occasion for many people to discover the sport of fencing, and to appreciate an impressive show. Through their experience, veteran fencers will be able to spark the interest of younger people for this sport.
I wish to thank the Cognac 2019 Organising Committee and volunteers for all the work they have accomplished to make this key sporting event possible here in France, in Grand Cognac. Their unflagging commitment and enthusiasm will ensure the success of this competition.
It is a great honor for France and particularly for our Grand Cognac area to host this year’s European Veterans’ Fencing Championships. This sporting event will give you the opportunity to discover our beautiful area, its history and heritage, its numerous cultural and sporting facilities and of course the eponymous spirit Cognac.
I wish to applaud the work accomplished by the Cercle de l’épée de Cognac and the Cognac 2019 Organising Committee. They have spared no effort in making this Championship a resounding success.
Grand Cognac is proud to support this major event which will take place in one of the finest sports venues in our metropolitan area. Indeed, in addition to the multi-sports complex, the Vauzelles center houses the X’eau, our pool and water park, where you can take advantage of many activities and a wellness center.
Good luck to all the competitors, enjoy the Championship !Gérard FAURIE
We are looking forward to welcoming over 1500 fencers from 35 countries which represents largest annual gathering of Veteran Fencers in Europe. Lifelong and newly developed rivalries played out in an atmosphere which demonstrates that fencing is a sport that can be enjoyed by everyone of all ages and locations. The European Championships provide a great opportunity for veteran fencers at all levels to discover the warmth and friendship within a highly competitive atmosphere that explains the continued growth of Veterans Fencing throughout Europe and the rest of the World.

I congratulate Bruno Royer and the Cognac 2019 Organising Committee on the enormous work they have accomplished in staging these Championships and look forward to celebrating the next group of European Veteran Fencing Champions.Caryl OLIVER
Welcome to all,
The Cercle de l’Epée de Cognac was awarded the organisation of the 2019 European Veterans’ Fencing Championships. What a challenge, and what an honour for me, as President of the Club!
Founded in 1913, our club is itself a veteran since it has been teaching and training fencers both young and old in the Charentes region for over 105 years. Our enthusiasm and drive are nonetheless intact, and we are extremely proud and excited to take up this challenge. We will do our utmost to ensure that your competitions run smoothly and in the best possible conditions to optimize your performances.
I am honoured and pleased to welcome the 1500 fencers who will be defending the colors of their respective countries on our pistes. You will be our valued guests for five days of competition, whether you are a fencer, coach, or spectator but above all passionate about fencing.
Warm regards,Walter LEVEQUE
Dear Fencing Friends,
A mix of pleasure and pride express my emotions at welcoming all of you to Cognac, where I made my “debut” as a young teenager with step lunges and beat attacks.
Fencing is our passion; from May 29 to June 2, 2019, more than one thousand five hundred contenders will be competing/sparring/bouting on the thirty-two pistes of the spacious Sports Complex in Châteaubernard, our neighboring town and partner in the organization of this event.
These Championships mark a major milestone in the career of veteran fencers, allowing them to confront the elite European fencers every other year. For the third time after Moulins and Hénin Beaumont, France is once again hosting this key event demonstrating, if need be, the importance and tradition of our noble sport in our country.
As veterans’ sports in general are an increasingly widespread phenomenon throughout the world, we must never forget the essential ingredient for us fencers: the joy of meeting up and exchanging views with people from various horizons and different cultures who all share the same passion: fencing.
I look forward to meeting you in Cognac!Bruno ROYER
Patience! Beginning of competitions in
