We are looking forward to welcoming over 1500 fencers from 35 countries which represents largest annual gathering of Veteran Fencers in Europe. Fencing veterans play an important role in the development of our sport. Lifelong and newly developed rivalries played out in an atmosphere which demonstrates that fencing is a sport that can be enjoyed by everyone of all ages and locations. The European Championships provide a great opportunity for veteran fencers at all levels to discover the warmth and friendship within a highly competitive atmosphere that explains the continued growth of Veterans Fencing throughout Europe and the rest of the World.
This year we will all be enjoying French hospitality in Cognac. I congratulate Bruno Royer and the Cognac 2019 Organising Committee on the enormous work they have accomplished in staging these Championships and look forward to celebrating the next group of European Veteran Fencing Champions.Caryl OLIVER
Welcome to all,
The Cercle de l’Epée de Cognac was awarded the organisation of the 2019 European Veterans’ Fencing Championships. What a challenge, and what an honour for me, as President of the Club!
Founded in 1913, our club is itself a veteran since it has been teaching and training fencers both young and old in the Charentes region for over 105 years. Our enthusiasm and drive are nonetheless intact, and we are extremely proud and excited to take up this challenge. We will do our utmost to ensure that your competitions run smoothly and in the best possible conditions to optimize your performances.
I am honoured and pleased to welcome the 1500 fencers who will be defending the colors of their respective countries on our pistes. You will be our valued guests for five days of competition, whether you are a fencer, coach, or spectator but above all passionate about fencing.
Warm regards,Walter LEVEQUE
Dear Fencing Friends,
A mix of pleasure and pride express my emotions at welcoming all of you to Cognac, where I made my “debut” as a young teenager with step lunges and beat attacks.
Fencing is our passion; from May 29 to June 2, 2019, more than one thousand five hundred contenders will be competing/sparring/bouting on the thirty-two pistes of the spacious Sports Complex in Châteaubernard, our neighboring town and partner in the organization of this event.
These Championships mark a major milestone in the career of veteran fencers, allowing them to confront the elite European fencers every other year. For the third time after Moulins and Hénin Beaumont, France is once again hosting this key event demonstrating, if need be, the importance and tradition of our noble sport in our country.
As veterans’ sports in general are an increasingly widespread phenomenon throughout the world, we must never forget the essential ingredient for us fencers: the joy of meeting up and exchanging views with people from various horizons and different cultures who all share the same passion: fencing.
I look forward to meeting you in Cognac!Bruno ROYER
